The President of the Center for Educational Research and Development(CERD), Dr. Nada Oweijane , and the President of Animals Lebanon , Ms. Lana El-Khalil, signed a memorandum of understanding concerning strengthening the cooperation and partnership between the CERD and the association regarding educational affairs. The association is concerned with the protection of animals especially the endangered. Its expertise and specialized HR staff specialize in promoting awareness on the importance of preserving and caring for livestock as well as the enactment of laws relating to their welfare, the establishment and management of specialized centers for their care and protection.
The signing ceremony was held at the CERD headquarters in Dekwaneh in the presence of the lawyer Ms. Lama Karama and Mr. Jason Meir of the Animals Lebanon Association , CERD Managing Director Charbel Musallem, Head of Pre and In-service and Training Bureau ,Rania Ghosoub, Head of School Clubs and Extra Curricular Activities , Siham Antoun, Responsible for Green Room Demonstration , Huda El Khoury, Head of Technology and Modern Life Skills Department Usama Ghoneim, Head Of Educational Informatics Grace Sawan, Department of Sociology Geography Laure Issa, Head of Kindergarten and Facilitator of Arabic Language Department.
The President of CERD , Dr. Oweijane , welcomed the President of the Association and the working team .She pointed out that the extensive activities of this association has “reinforced our conviction of the importance of cooperation, especially as we are in the process of developing the curricula. Consequently , raising generations on assuming societal responsibility and respecting our natural resources which includes livestock and preserving endangered animals is an educational and national responsibility. Its aim is to serve the natural and environmental balance, focus on raising awareness in dealing responsibly with creatures and establish scientific and ethical behavior among the youth.
El Khalil's intervention :
Mrs. El-Khalil assured that the memo will contribute to the general educational and national efforts undertaken by CERD on educational curricula and related activities, especially that public as well as the private educational institutions are the most appropriate sites to deepen the awareness of youth about the importance of respecting and preserving animals. She stated that the association rescues animals from illegal trafficking, and is working on issuing a law for animal welfare Moreover, she expressed satisfaction that the efforts are beginning to bear fruit, as the during their last session , the Members of the Parliament placed the law of animal welfare on their agenda . El-Khalil expressed the willingness to cooperate with CERD as mentioned in the MOU to provide the necessary expertise . Animals Lebanon has conducted many workshops in schools and seeks to explore the best ways to develop appropriate educational materials in this field.
